Why Winter Tyres Make Sense

With Christmas rapidly approaching and winter showing its hand in recent weeks, what better time than now to treat your car to a set of winter tyres fitted.

It’s that time of year again when seasonally-expected conditions such as frost, ice and snow make driving extremely hazardous. However, stopping short of fitting snow chains to your vehicle, WCC has a workable, affordable and readily available alternative solution to surviving winter on the roads. Winter tyres fitted.

Aren’t Winter Tyres Just Something Our Scandinavian Friends Invest In?

For decades winter tyres have been an instant solution to adverse weather conditions in countries which suffer from the most challenging of winters. Scandinavian drivers automatically swap their normal car tyres for winter rubber from December through to March annually. In places like Sweden for example, it’s the law.

Yet whilst those residing in such countries are well-versed in exchanging summer tyres for winter rubber, here in the UK we’re traditionally a little more sceptical. And dare we say it, altogether cautious about the whole concept.

Maybe that is until you look at the facts.

Summer tyres as such are designed with rubber compounds which provide optimum grip in milder conditions. Alternatively, the tyre treads typically found in dedicated winter tyres are fashioned in ways which counter the effects of an accumulation of packed snow or ice. What’s more, winter tyres are also created to offset the ravages of plummeting temperatures.

But I’ve Only Recently Bought New Tyres For My Car?

That’s fine.

Because we’re not suggesting disposing of your normal year-round tyres. Especially not when there’s still plenty of legally-compliant treads on them. Instead we can remove your existing tyres, have brand new winter tyres fitted in their place, and you keep hold of your existing tyres. Until such time as the spring reappears and road conditions naturally improve. Then we can put your current tyres back on your car.

All you need to do is have a suitable place to store said tyres. And let’s face it. Everyone seems to have sizable garages, sheds and outhouses these days. So with any luck, it shouldn’t be a problem. You could even pop them in a spare room or a corner of the conservatory until next spring.

But I Can’t Afford Brand New Winter Tyres Fitted In The Run-up To Christmas

We understand that Christmas can be an expensive time of year. Of course we do. But with all that to’ing and fro’ing as you go present and food shopping – as well as visiting all your relatives – you’re almost averaging as many Air Miles as Santa himself. However, it’s hugely important to know that you and your passengers are as safe as possible en route

OK. Some people might argue that investing in winter tyres fitted for the odd inclement weekends like the ones the UK has just experienced isn’t worth it. But what price should we put on our own safety and that of others. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
